Hi all,
v5 firmware has two bugs. first one is incorrect checksum and second one – brightness control.
v5.1 should fix both of them. You can download it here.

Hi Andy,
I’ve dowloaded v5 the day before yesterday. I had “checksum fail” when I tryed to open it with MTKRemaker (2.32). I’ve corrected this with the software and then saved the whole corrected bin. SO I don’t if it’s a real bug or not: the other (than English) subtitles by DVD-video is not displayed (or not displayed correct). e.g. only english subs were shown if I had chosen hungarian subtitle.
11. January, 2007 at 06:22
subtitles: try to turn off (or on and than off) forced pan&scan option.
Whaen turned on this option can affect on suftitles. That’s why it was removed as permanent and made as optional.

Thanks for the hard work, andy007!
Looks very nice and the checksum fail has been corrected.

V5.1 worked first try no errors… Now to begin testing thanx again for the great work Andy007.

I turned the forced Pan&Scan option off. The hungarian (and all other than english) DVD subtitle(s) work fine! Would you pleeez apply the “easter egg” of 0220 modd, the MediaTek DVD navigator submenu to to your 0720 v5.1 modd?

It will be implemented along with Qplay support.

My post got lost on 985S site. I had a question about flashing 971H with BBK 985S firmware. Is it possible or will cause a problem?
Also, I was quite surprised to find out that my cheap Philips DVP642 will play divx with 768×576 (I know it’s weird) just fine, while Oppo with it’s 720 limitation will only play the sound.
how come DVP 642 can downsize while Oppo can not?
Thank you

If you flash oppo with bbk’s firmware you lost functionality of your remote control. All other things will work. Are you sure that your Philips DVP642 build on the same chipset that oppo? Because 720×576 is a hardware limitation of the MT1389 chipset.
17. January, 2007 at 17:18
Wait, so are you saying that flashing the 971 with this latest firmware will cause the 971’s remote to stop working? Sorry if I’m just confused.
Also, is this based on a newer version of the Oppo firmware (316 for instance), or is it still the same base older version? Any plans to move to the new version if so?
Thanks in advance.
19. January, 2007 at 17:21
What exactly does “Forced pan&scan” do?
Thanks for all the hard work!
20. January, 2007 at 16:39
Andy, Phillips DVP642 is build on Vibratto chipset as far as I know. I’m just surprised that a $60 player can downscale big divx files while $200 one can not, that’s all.
As for flashing Oppo with BBK’s firmware – are the remotes so different? I have the new type of the remote (I believe).

I would love to have the ability to see files with Russian names on the disk. Is it possible at all?
Thanks for your hard work!

Can I change the 1252 codepage support to 1250 in filbrowser with font change in MTKRemaker?
If yes, which font should I change?
If NOT:
Would you pleeeez modify (rollback) the codepage support to CP1250 of filebrowser?
(There are some cyrillic letters in filenames)
Thank you, so much!
22. January, 2007 at 02:44
Eman, no you can not change 1251 -> 1250 only with font change. You should change mapping function in ARM.
I won’t do 1250 support.
I am modding firmware not for oppo971 player but for bbk985. Oppo backward support made by Remote codes table/firmware filename change and done cmd file.
I just do not have time to support two different firmwares.
Gorg, why do you want to flash oppo with bbk’s firmware??? Use firmware for oppo.
23. January, 2007 at 02:49
I had changed the filebrowser font yesterday (with MTKRemaker) and the most of the special hungarian letters are now ok. (Yes, I know, it doesn’t solve the problem 100%, but 75% is working AND I can’t make it in other way)
Thanks Andy, v5.1 will be ok for hungarian Oppo-fans.

Help!
I uploaded the new 5.1 firmware to my player, and now I can’t flash it back to any other frimware at all(!) I get “unknown disc” on ALL my old firmware CDs
The reason I want to change back to an older Oppo or BBK fw is because the old RC (slim silver one) doesen’t work with the 5.1 firmware. There was no errors when updating to 5.1, all went smoothly. But now I can’t do shit
Please help
27. January, 2007 at 04:42
Never mind. I fixed it
After 20+ cds I figured it out. The russian 5.1 firmware will only accept bin-files that are named “BBK985S.bin”, it will not take nams like “935.bin”. So I renamed the firmware I wanted to use and re-burnt it. Worked like a charm. But I got to tell you I was a bit nervous when none of my previous-working firmware CDs was working anymore.
27. January, 2007 at 23:35
This question has been asked before by another user but didn’t seem to get an answer. I’m also curious, what exactly does “Forced Pan & Scan” do?
29. January, 2007 at 03:18
fubar, did you use 5.1 version for oppo or 5.1 version for bbk?
because oppo version should accept 935.bin filename and all oppo’s RC.
Shinobu, when you use Display type Normal PS on 4:3 TV most of the discs just ignores it. It happens because P&S should be “enabled” on disc. Forces Pan & Scan turns on patch which forces using this display type to work on all discs. Unfortunately this patch is not perfect: it will add some non-english subtitle problems on some discs. That’s why I add this menu option.
So, if you are using 16:9 TV just turn off and forget about this menu option:)
If you are using 4:3 and only english subs are enough for you that turn it on and also forget and use Display type Normal PS when you want.
If you are using 4:3 TV and non-english subtitles than turn it off if you have problem with subtitles.
27. February, 2007 at 06:44
Hi Andy,
I found a subtitle display bug:
Even if I turned “off” the “forced P&S”, the english subtitle (I mean DVD-Videos) wil be not displayed.
I think you can solve this bug like you did it by your 0220 modd. (by the 0220 the hun sub was not displayed)
Thanks.
27. February, 2007 at 08:56
Eman, after you turned off forced P&S did you reboot your player?
1. March, 2007 at 04:52
Yes, I’ll reboot it, but it helps not.
Would you please implement the MediaTek DVD navigator menu to your 0720 modd (like you did it by 0220 modd)

Help please mr andy007
22. March, 2007 at 01:43
Sorry, but unfortunatly I am not sure what Fat controller is and how it differ from other controllers. You can try firmware for bbk985 (www.bbk985s.com). It is the same as for oppo with different remote controller and fw filename (bbk’s fw expect BBK985S.BIN to upgrade)

how much is it ?

15. September, 2007 at 10:46
Any updates for Oppo 971? I would love to have the features that you developed for BBK in 6.4.
Please compile one for us, Oppo users.
Thanks!

Andy,
You have release the 6.4 firmware, for BBK985S.
This firmware isn’t compatible with the OPPO remote control (http://www.oppodigital.com/images/971Remote-C.jpg)
Andy, can you release your latest BBK985S firmware 6.4 to be compatible with our OPPO OPD971H?
Or, if you haven’t the time to do this, can you give me the solution to build your firmware compatible with OPDV971H (changing the code of remote control)?
Thanks very much by advance.

I have upgraded correctly the firmware several month ago. It was all ok until yesterday. My son have accidentally insert the firmware cd into the dvd player and he interrupts the procedure before the end. Now, obviously, the player sleeps calmly! Can I repair this error? Maybe linking the player to the pc to force the firmware recording? Please help me or I am forced to kill my son!
