Firmware update Oppo971-0720.v5

Hi all,
Here is long awaited firmware update for oppo 971.
Changes from v1:
+ Now browser has 9 lines, not 6.
+ New Audio settings menu.
+ Equalizer and Sound field settings are saved on power off.
+ Forced pan&scan feature.

Note that this mod is adopted mod for Russian bbk985 player, so second language of the firmware is Russian, not Chineese.

It can be downloaded here.

    Many thanks Andy! You’re awsome!
I will test it today afternoon.

    Excelent work Andy.

Any luck looking into the Cambridge firmwares?

  3. DaEnigma says:

    I get checksum error :(

  4. DaEnigma says:

I made another disk and all went well so I am guessing it was a bad burn…

DaEnigma, I recommend to use CD-RW.

Lasborg, I have no time for Cambridge firmwares. Sorry.

Thanks for the hard work, andy007!

I get a “CHECKSUM FAIL” every time I try this firmware. The previous 720.v1 burns and upgrades fine.

I’m using a CD-RW, ISO9660 mode, tried downloading the firmware multiple times and have used multiple CD-RWs — same results each time.

  7. Lasborg says:

torishu Do you burn as an image, or as a file.

I believe that you are supposed to burn as file.

  8. Doug says:

I’ve tried burning this as a data file onto a disk using nero, and when i load it into the player it just says “unknown disk”. I’m not sure if this is a problem with it being burned in iso9660 or what not, my version of Nero does not have the same options as the one on this site does. There’s no where that I can see to set the modes of the disk burn other than track at once or disk at once methods.

    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks

Lasborg, I burn it as a file. No Joliet. I’ve tried Track at Once and Disc at Once, finalized the disc. Tried both ImgBurn and Nero. Remember, I can burn/upgrade 720.v1 with no problem.

The player attempts to read the file, I get a “RETRY COPY” and then the “CHECKSUM ERROR”. At first I thought it was a bad burn except that it’s happened with many discs and multiple burners.

Not having any read problems with the OPPO otherwise. The player still works fine — it never attempts the upgrade since the checksum fails.

Doug, make sure you use only ISO9660 mode (no Joliet) and that you finalize the disc.

Doug, just read your message more completely and I’ll try to clarify more…

In Nero, you select “CD-ROM (ISO)” on the “New Compilation” page for “CD”. On the “ISO” tab, make sure “Data mode” is set for “Mode 1″ and change the dropdown for “File system” to “ISO9660 only”. Tick the box for “Finalize CD” on the “Burn” page before initiating the burn and you should get past that “UNKNOWN DISC” error.

This is assuming you’re not using Nero in “Nero Express” mode, which I have no experience with.

If you don’t have these options, I’m afraid you’ll have to find another burning program to burn a working disc with. ImgBurn is a free alternative but quite a bit less user-friendly.

Thanks, I used imgburn and I got the same error as others (check sum error). I did get v1 to work though which fixes the uops which was my primary concern.

  12. DaEnigma says:

Well after many attempts I have not been able to get the firmware to upgrade… I thought I did but all I fixed was the unknown disk error. I am still getting a checksum error and the flash will not take place.

I also can get v.1 to work but not this version.

  13. andy007 says:

Be patient. I found small bug in v5 version. Also I am sorry for checksum error: It could be that file has wrong checksum. I do not have oppo971 player and can not test firmwares by myself.
